Church of Agios Georgios (Lefkos)

Just outside Lefkos, one of the most popular seaside villages of Karpathos, there is the church of Agios Georgios. It is a five-domed, double-pitched roof church of a rare architectural type that dates back to the early Christian era.

The exterior of the church has suffered major damage, yet it has been restored to the standards of the original church. Nevertheless, the interior remains intact with two-layer impressive frescoes covering all the walls. In fact, the oldest of these layers dates back to around 1300.

The serenity and tranquility of the chapel and the lush surroundings of olive and pine trees make up an idyllic landscape that is bound to leave you speechless. The peak of this whole experience will be the dozens of peacocks that prowl around the courtyard of the church.
