Pigadia

To the southeast of the island lies the capital and main port of Karpathos, Pigadia. From the ancient city that was built in honor of Poseidon, only parts of the ancient citadel and the walls that protected it are preserved.

Nowadays, Pigadia offers all the comforts of a capital, though there are striking differences in appearance when compared to other island capitals. In terms of tourism, it is the best-organized area of the island, with many cafés, bars and restaurants where you can enjoy delicious dishes by the sea.

Within walking distance from clean and organized beaches, such as the beaches of Vronti, Kyra Panagia, Agios Nikolaos and Ammopi, the town gives you the opportunity to admire an authentic Aegean region.

Among the sights we recommend are the ruins of the early Christian church of Agia Fotini, built on the ruins of the Sanctuary of the Dioscuri, and the chapel of Agia Kyriaki with the spectacular view of the sea and the lush forest.
