Olympos

One of the most traditional places in Greece, the village of Olympus, clinging to the side of Mount Profitis Elias, will leave every visitor spellbound once they first receive their first glimpse of this tiny hamlet of pastel-colored houses.

Like a mist-blown eyrie perched atop a perilous mountain ridge, it offers jaw-dropping views to the Aegean Sea. In Olympus you will feel like you're on a movie set, as you have the opportunity to see local men dressed in traditional clothes and women still wearing their stunning hand-spun jackets and floral headgear.

They even speak with a dialect that still contains traces of ancient Dorian Greek. The village is a vibrant live folk museum where the visitor, besides its unparalleled beauty, can experience the most authentic Greek hospitality.

Make sure you visit the traditional windmills, the Chrysovalantou Monastery, the Museum of the artist Vasilis Hatzivasilis, and Vrykous, one of the four ancient cities of Karpathos (Tetrapolis).
